Licensed Cannabis Dispensary in Washington DC
Not every cannabis shop in DC is licensed. Here’s why that matters, how to check any store in under a minute, and where Jars DC fits in.
What a license means
Licensed DC dispensaries are regulated by ABCA. The products they sell must come from licensed producers, pass independent lab testing for potency and contaminants, and meet packaging and labeling rules. Licensed stores also have to follow security requirements and display their license on site.
Unlicensed shops, including many that say they’re “gifting” cannabis with another purchase, don’t follow any of those rules, and ABCA has been actively closing them down.
How to check a dispensary's license
Search for the store in ABCA’s licensed retailer directory. If it’s not listed, it isn’t a licensed DC retailer. When you’re in the store, look for the license posted on the wall.
